Payton and Caleb’s love story began in high school, where they started dating during their senior year and even attended prom together. From that moment on, they’ve been inseparable. When Payton moved to Virginia for college, Caleb made the nine-hour drive—sometimes more than once a month—just to be with her while she navigated homesickness and a new chapter.
Eventually, she returned to Rhode Island for her sophomore year, and after graduating, the two moved in together—first in Jamestown, then spending three years in Newport, where they fell deeply in love with the island’s charm. It quickly became clear that Newport would someday be the place they said “I do.”
Caleb proposed just before Christmas in 2022 on Goat Island, and soon after, the wedding planning began for the celebration they had always dreamed of.
A Perfect Summer Wedding at Newport Vineyards
On June 20th, Payton and Caleb celebrated their wedding at Newport Vineyards. It was a warm and breezy summer day—especially welcome after a stretch of rainy weekends leading up to it. The sunshine truly felt like a small miracle and set the tone for a joyful, relaxed celebration.
Getting Ready in Newport & Middletown, Rhode Island
Payton chose to get ready at the couple’s home, which created such an intimate and meaningful start to the day. The beauty team set up in the dining room, transforming the space into a calm, joy-filled environment where laughter, stories, and anticipation filled every corner.
Meanwhile, Caleb and his groomsmen got ready at Homewood Suites by Hilton Middletown Newport, sharing drinks, jokes, and those final pre-ceremony moments together.
A Vineyard Ceremony Filled with Emotion
Once at the vineyard, Payton shared an emotional first look with her dad—there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. Shortly after, she saw Caleb for the first time that day. Even though he didn’t expect to cry, he couldn’t hold back a few tears when he saw his bride.
After soaking in that moment, they moved right into wedding party and family portraits. Choosing to do these ahead of time allowed them to fully enjoy cocktail hour with their guests—something I always recommend for couples planning a Newport wedding.
The ceremony took place in the open vineyard field, surrounded by 150 loved ones. Officiated by a family member, it felt deeply personal and heartfelt.
And then—one of the most unforgettable moments of the day.
Right after the ceremony, during a full guest photo, the announcement:
“On the count of three, everyone say, ‘Payton’s pregnant!’”
The reaction? Pure shock, joy, cheers, and happy tears. Such a beautiful way to share the start of their next chapter.
Golden Hour Portraits & A Celebration to Remember
Before the reception began, Payton and Caleb snuck away for golden hour portraits. The sun stretched across the vineyard, casting the softest glow—it was one of those surreal, quiet moments in the middle of a high-energy day.
The reception that followed was full of life—heartfelt toasts, nonstop dancing, and so much love in the room.
Payton’s father ended his speech by pulling out a baby onesie, announcing that the Boston Red Sox were gaining a new little fan—another moment that had the entire room cheering.
From glow sticks on the dance floor to meaningful traditions like Payton’s mom removing the cake knife for good luck, every part of the night felt intentional, joyful, and uniquely them.
Planning Tip: Where to Get Ready on Your Wedding Day
If you’re planning a wedding one of the most overlooked—but impactful—decisions is where you get ready.
Here’s my honest advice as a photographer:
1. Getting Ready at Home (Highly Underrated)
Getting ready at your own home—or a family home—adds so much meaning to your photos. It tells a deeper story, feels more relaxed, and often creates the most emotional moments of the day. If you have the option, I always recommend it.
2. Hotel Suites (Pro Tips)
If home isn’t an option, look for a large hotel suite—and here’s the insider trick:
- Book two rooms (or borrow a family/friends room)
- One for getting ready (clean, bright, minimal clutter)
- One for bags, food, and everything else
Trust me—it makes a huge difference in your photos.
3. Bridal Lounges (Up-and-Coming & So Worth It)
Many beauty teams/small businesses are now offering bridal lounges—spaces designed specifically for hair, makeup, and getting ready. These are often styled beautifully with great lighting and plenty of room. Perfect if you want that elevated, editorial feel.
4. Airbnb & Peerspace Rentals
Search platforms like Airbnb or Peerspace for unique spaces.
Even if you don’t stay overnight, renting a space for a few hours can completely elevate your getting-ready photos—and honestly… worth it.
